Thursday, February 22.  Luncheon with Guest Speaker: Upstairs at noon; Lunch at 12:15. Edward McCarthy, MD, professor of pathology and orthopedic surgery at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, will explore the connection between Music & Medicine. As a cellist and surgeon, Dr. McCarthy has been fascinated by the overlapping effect of music and medicine. In this lecture he will discuss the symbolic relationship between musical harmony and health, along with the idea of the human body as a musical instrument. In addition, Dr. McCarthy will discuss an unusual set of diseases peculiar to musicians, specifically looking at several great composers and how their illnesses affected their work.
