An Exceptional Club for Women in Baltimore

Speaker: Dr. Matthew Crenson

December 19, 2017 @ 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Tuesday December 19.  Luncheon with Guest Speaker: Upstairs at noon; Lunch at 12:15.  In his latest book, Baltimore, A Political History, Dr. Crenson examines the role of politics and race throughout Baltimore’s history. Revealing how residents at large engage (and disengage) with one another across an expansive agenda of issues and conflicts, he shows how politics helped form our complex city’s personality.  We are pleased to announce that Dr. Matthew Crenson, Johns Hopkins Professor Emeritus of Political Science at the Johns Hopkins University will discuss his most recent book on Tuesday, Dec. 19. He received his PhD from the U of Chicago in political Science and came to Hopkins as an assistant professor the same year, teaching in the Department of Political Science. Thirty-eight years later, he became Professor Emeritus in Urban Government and American Political Development, his primary areas of interest. He spent the bulk of his career doing scholarly research on policy issues. He has published well-reviewed books on neighborhood politics in Baltimore, the “prehistory” of the federal welfare program, and the effect of political elites on democracy.
