An Exceptional Club for Women in Baltimore

Propose Member

Dear Hamilton Street Club Member,

We are delighted that you are proposing a potential member for the Hamilton Street Club! The membership process is designed to be as simple and enjoyable as possible. Before you begin the membership process, please entertain your candidate at the Club on at least one occasion so that she can get a feel for the Hamilton Street Club. We also suggest that you share with her one or more of our monthly newsletters which list our wonderful programs.

Following this letter, you will find an information sheet for you to complete for the Membership Committee, which you may submit online.  You may also print and fill out a printable version of this information sheet. In addition, please write a letter of proposal describing your candidate and explaining why she would enjoy the Hamilton Street Club and our congenial group of women. Also, please solicit one seconding letter from another member of the Club who knows your candidate and supports her membership. The letters may be sent to the Club by email to manager@hamiltonstclub.com or they be mailed to the Club addressed to “Attention Chair of the Membership Committee.” Once all three items for the proposal packet (information form, proposal letter, seconding letter) have been received, the packet will be reviewed by the Membership Committee.

The Club by-laws state that a candidate must be known by two members of the Membership Committee. This is accomplished in one of two ways:

1. If your candidate is already known by two members of the Membership Committee, her packet can be immediately reviewed and she is not obligated to attend a lunch with the Membership Committee.

2. If the candidate is not known to two members of the Committee, you will be contacted to arrange for your candidate to meet the Committee.
The Membership Committee meets every second Monday of the month (except for July and August) at 11:30 for a business meeting followed by lunch at noon with prospective members and their proposers.

If your candidate is elected, the Board will be notified, and the Club Secretary will issue a formal letter of invitation. Once your candidate accepts her invitation and pays her initiation fees, she becomes a member of the Hamilton Street Club.

Again, thank you for proposing your candidate. If you have any questions regarding the membership process, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Membership Committee.

Sincerely,
Marilyn Tabb and Jane Meyer,
Membership Committee Co-Chairs
